Browne is essentially an ‘environmental artist’, primarily doing site specific sculptures and graphite drawings using natural material, an ongoing exploration of the “consciousness of place.”. She offers a series of boats made from cork tree needles from the Arnold Arborteum that are delicate and lyrical. “A boat to me is freedom." Marine debris drawings begin with the physical act of collecting. Using various values of graphite to fill the voids found within the synthetic material, a positive image emerges, weighted by the knowledge of humanities destructive behavior.
